Richard Nicoll wins two awards at RPS NG Exhibtion 2017

Richard Nicoll's images of a Barn Owl carrying prey and of two Common Terns in courtship behaviour have both been Highly Commended at the Royal Photographic Society Nature Group's Annual Exhibition 2017.



Flickr Photostream reaches 1 Million Views

Richard Nicoll's photostream on Flickr has now had more than 1 million views. Richard said "A huge thank you to everyone who has thought my images worthy of viewing on the Flickr platform. I am looking forward to another year of sharing some of those magical encounters with nature with everyone."

BBC Licenses Cuckoo image for Life Scientific website

Richard Nicoll's image of the Reed Warbler feeding a Cuckoo chick has been licensed by the BBC for the Radio 4 The Life Scientific radio programme featuring Prof. Nick Davies's discussion with Jim Al-Khalili.

Hen Harrier image raises £200 for NT Wicken Fen in memory of Ralph Sargeant

Richard Nicoll donated a limited edition print (1/1) of two male Hen Harrier's interacting over Verrall's Fen in order to raise funds for NT Wicken Fen in memory of Ralph Sargeant who died recently.

Richard said Ralph enjoyed seeing the Hen Harrier's in the winter and seemed to know how many had arrived to roost virtually every evening. With a glint in his eye and a smile he always had an interesting story to tell of his times at the Fen. He will be sorely missed.

Richard Nicoll's image of two male Hen Harrier's interacting over Verral's Fen (part of the National Trust's Wicken Fen reserve) has been selected as the winning print in the Plants & Animals section of Cambridge Camera Club's Annual Exhibition. An image of a Bittern landing in the reed bed was High Commended and images of a Ruff and Four-spotted Chaser were Commended.

Richard Nicoll wins Gold Medal at 103rd Southampton International

Richard Nicoll's image of a Bittern landing in the reed bed at the National Trust's Wicken Fen reserve has been awarded the FIAP Gold Medal for Best Wildlife at the 103rd Southampton International Exhibition 2016. In addition a picture of a Hen Harrier (also taken at Wicken Fen) was awarded an SCC Medal.

University of Cambridge Licenses Cuckoo image

The University of Cambridge has licensed an image of a Reed Warbler feeding a Cuckoo chick as a beam of sunlight catches its gape turning the Reed Warbler's head orange. The image is being used to publicise a Darwin lecture by Prof. Nick Davies titled "The reed warbler and the cuckoo: an escalating game of trickery and defence"

Little Egret gains Honorable Mention at Bristol Salon 2016

The Dutch magazine "Groei & Bloei" has licensed an image of a Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) eating Elder Berries (Sambucus nigra) for publication in the February 2016 edition.
